Restore PVID vlan support in LuCI

Description (last modified by jow) (diff)

In revision 7679, PVID vlan support has been removed from LuCI with explanation that "its not really useful and confusing". However, it *is* useful and actually necessary in cases when you have port over which both tagged and untagged frames can go. In such cases, PVID must be specified in order to properly classify untagged frames. And since removal that is only possible by editing switch configuration by hand.

This removal has actually crippled vlan support in LuCI and it should be restored to the previous state, which included support for setting PVID.

According to the OpenWrt? developers the pvid facility in OpenWrt? only works by accident, and that only on realtek switches, thats the reason why I removed it in the first place. I do not intend to restore it until there is a reliable genric mechanism for it.

Hi jow,
I would like to report, that Atheros chips AR7240 and AR9331 have a built-in switch. OpenWrt? supports this perfectly (correct VLAN and PVID function). Many SoHo? routers are built on Atheros platform (TP-Link 741/841/941/1043, D-Link DIR-600/615/825, Ubiquiti devices, Netgear WNDR3700/3800, Linksys WRT160NL to name some). Please consider the PVID function again. Without PVID, VLANs are mostly useless. Thank you!

I second this request.

PVID setting is required for the switch to function with VLANs. Without an explicit setting it seems it is indeed set on the switch hardware to some (most of the time wrong) value based on the previous configuration.
We should either set it explicitly, or at least it should be correctly initialized to the value of the first (and only) untagged vlan on the port, but never left as "undef".

Requests for changing the switch behaviour should be directed to dev.openwrt.org, the gui has no influence on that.
